Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of The Human-Canine Alliance platform ("TH-CA," "we," "us," or "our") at app.humancaninealliance.com and any associated services. By creating an account or using the platform, you agree to these Terms.

About the platform

The Human-Canine Alliance is a mission-driven platform that uses AI-assisted matching to connect people seeking emotional support and companionship with compatible rescue dogs. The platform is operated by The Human-Canine Alliance, Inc., a California nonprofit corporation. The platform is patent-pending (U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/933,203, priority date December 7, 2025).

TH-CA is a facilitator, not an adoption agency. We do not own, house, or place dogs. All adoption decisions are made independently by the rescue organizations listed on our platform.

Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to use this platform. By creating an account, you represent that you are 18 or older and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms. If you are using the platform on behalf of a rescue organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

Your account

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account and for all activity that occurs under it. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to keep your profile information up to date. You may not share your account credentials or allow others to access your account.

You may delete your account at any time from your profile settings. Upon deletion, all personally identifiable information is permanently removed within 30 days.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

Provide false or misleading information in your profile or intake form
Use the platform for any commercial purpose other than operating a legitimate rescue organization
Attempt to scrape, copy, or reverse-engineer the platform's matching algorithm or AI outputs
Harass, threaten, or harm other users, rescue staff, or animals
Use the platform in any way that violates applicable law
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the platform

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms without prior notice.

Rescue organizations

Rescue organizations listed on TH-CA may be sourced from the public RescueGroups.org API or added directly. By claiming your organization's profile, you agree that:

The information you provide is accurate and kept current
You have authority to represent the organization
You will respond to guardian inquiries and meet-and-greet requests in a timely manner
All dogs listed are currently available for adoption and accurately described

TH-CA is not responsible for the adoption decisions, policies, or practices of individual rescue organizations. All adoption agreements are between the guardian and the rescue organization directly.

AI matching — important disclaimer

Our matching algorithm uses AI to suggest compatible dogs based on the information you provide. These suggestions are recommendations only — they are not guarantees of compatibility, adoption approval, or outcome. The final adoption decision rests entirely with the rescue organization and you. TH-CA is not liable for any outcome resulting from a match, including but not limited to adoption denials, behavioral issues, or incompatibility discovered after adoption.

The platform is not a substitute for professional mental health services, veterinary advice, or animal behavior consultation. If you are in crisis, please contact the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Intellectual property

The Human-Canine Alliance platform, including its matching methodology, AI-generated match prescriptions, design, and branding, is the proprietary intellectual property of The Human-Canine Alliance, Inc. and is patent-pending (U.S. Provisional Application No. 63/933,203). You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the platform without our express written consent.

Content you upload (profile photos, dog photos, organization logos) remains your property. By uploading it, you grant TH-CA a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display it on the platform for the purpose of facilitating matches.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Human-Canine Alliance, Inc. shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the platform, including but not limited to damages arising from adoption outcomes, reliance on AI match results, or interactions with rescue organizations. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim (if any).

The platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, as the platform is operated by a California nonprofit corporation. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved in the state or federal courts located in California. Note: governing jurisdiction is subject to review by legal counsel prior to public launch.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms periodically. We will notify registered users of material changes via email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
